Tips from the Techs: Cleaning Your Condenser

As the foodservice industry deals with shutdowns, social distancing, and other responses to COVID-19, you may find you have a little more downtime on your hands.

Take the opportunity to do some extra cleaning - including wiping down your commercial cooler/freezer's condenser and checking the door gaskets!

Cleaning the Condenser on your Commercial Cooler/Freezer

1. Unplug unit and locate condensor. Condensing units are either top- or bottom-mounted.
2. Remove front louvered cover (usually held in place with screws).
3. Use a towel to wipe excess dirt from condenser. Go up and down with coil be careful not to bend over fins. They are very sharp, so be careful there too.
4. Use CO2 or Nitrogen to blow the coils out. We also sell cans of condenser cleaner you can use instead of compressed air.
5. Reinstall front cover.
6. Open up doors and check your door gaskets; look for rips or tears. If you find some. they need replaced. This will ensure your doors are sealing tight and compressor isn't running too much.
