What Are Commercial Kitchen Carts?

A commercial kitchen cart, also known as a commercial utility cart, is a type of cart used in commercial kitchens, specifically designed to cart around common items used in restaurants and food-service establishments. These common commercial-kitchen items include, but are not limited to, various kitchen tools and accessories, tabletop items, glassware, dishwares, and more.

A utility kitchen cart is a great addition to any commercial kitchen because it makes it easier and more convenient for your food-service crew to transport a lot of heavy items around the kitchen in one go. A kitchen utility cart with wheels should also not be limited for use in a commercial kitchen despite its name, because it can actually be used as a bus cart.

A Look at Bussing Carts

It is common knowledge that a bus boy is one of the most important members of your food-service crew because a bus boy’s tasks include clearing dirty tables so that newly arrived diners can quickly replace the ones leaving, thus maximizing the profits of your restaurant.

However, the task of clearing dirty tables also involves your bus boy cleaning the tables to make them sanitary. Our bussing carts here at Rapids Wholesale feature shelves, tote boxes, and refuse bins to make sure that your bus boy can do his job as efficiently as possible.

Most importantly, though, a bus cart needs to be heavy-duty as well as easy to clean and corrosion-resistant. This is because when clearing dirty tables, some moisture in the form of water and spilled drinks as well as food particles will eventually find their way into your bus cart. It is a good idea, therefore, to wash and clean your bussing carts regularly (preferably after every shift), with warm soapy water. All bussing carts available at Rapids Wholesale are guaranteed washable, durable, and able to handle the rigors of an extremely busy restaurant kitchen.

Our commercial kitchen carts and bussing carts are made of heavy-duty plastic as well as stainless steel. It is important to remember that certain acidic foods, condiments, and drinks can potentially damage a stainless steel utility cart when left on the metal too long. Extra care should be extended to a metal kitchen utility cart, particularly when dealing with acidic foods, condiments, and drinks such as citrus juices and vinegar.

Depending on what type of material you prefer for your commercial kitchen carts and bussing carts, you should remember that there are several pros and cons for each. A metal kitchen utility cart or stainless steel utility cart is stain-resistant but is not scratch-resistant. In fact, metal and stainless steel are some of the most easily scratched surfaces. A plastic utility cart is more scratch-resistant compared to its metal or stainless-steel counterpart, but it will never be as durable.
