What Is a Soup Warmer?

A soup warmer or commercial soup kettle will help you create a relaxing and homey atmosphere for your restaurant or food-service establishment.

In olden days, soup was heated in a pot or kettle over a fire. This way of cooking soup provided diners with a cozy atmosphere. Nowadays you can mimic this in your restaurant or food-service establishment with the help of a restaurant soup warmer.

One important thing to remember, though, is that an electric soup warmer for restaurants are specifically designed to fit a certain size of food insert, the usual sizes of which are seven, ten, or twenty-two quart sizes.

Why are these food inserts required for a commercial soup warmer, you may ask? Because the kettle part of a soup warmer kettle is not an approved food-contact surface. An insert is usually already included when you purchase a soup kettle warmer, but if one is not available or included in the purchase, any standard-size round insert will also work.

One tip to remember in order to save on energy costs in your restaurant or food-service establishment is to always keep the lid on your soup warmer. In connection with this, you can actually also choose the type of cover for your electronic restaurant soup pots or soup display. There are restaurant soup pots that utilize a whole lid or cover while there are those that utilize hinged-type lids that are easier to use because your food-service staff will only need to open the lid through a hinge and dish out the soup into your customers' soup bowl as opposed to lifting the entire lid off, setting it down, and then putting it back after serving the diners.
