Commercial Measuring Cups

Measuring cups are a type of kitchen utensils that are typically used in measuring the volume of either solid or liquid ingredients. These ingredients commonly include sugar, flour, and the like, especially volumes that reach around fifty milliliters onward. Measuring cups are mostly used in kitchens of commercial establishments such as bakeries, restaurants, and other food-service businesses. Commercial measuring cups feature a scale that is marked in cups or fractions of a cup.

Commercial measuring cups can be made of various materials, the most common of which include metal, plastic, and glass. Industrial measuring cups are not limited to measuring foodstuffs and ingredients, however, as they are also used by self-service laundry places for measuring liquid detergents, bleach, and washing powder.

Common Capacities and Scales of Restaurant Measuring Cups

Commercial measuring cups typically feature capacities from 250 milliliters (which is approximately one cup) to 1,000 milliliters (which is approximately four cups or two pints or one quart). Larger sizes of measuring cups (most especially wholesale measuring cups) are also common in commercial kitchens. These measuring cups generally feature different-height scale markings, with the substance being measured added to the cup until it reaches the wanted level. However, sometimes dry-measure cups without a scale are used, generally in sets of 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, and 1 cup. Multiples of teaspoons and tablespoons are also available. In addition, there may also be scales for the approximate weight of certain substances such as flour and sugar.

Measuring Scoops or Measuring Spoons

Much like measuring cups, measuring scoops or spoons are mostly used to measure an amount of ingredient—either dry or liquid—for cooking. However, unlike measuring cups, measuring scoops often lack the scale and are filled and leveled to maximum capacity. Measuring scoops are mostly suited for measuring things such as water (and any other type of liquid) as well as flour, sugar, or cornstarch.

Measuring scoops are available in various sizes (as small as a teaspoon or as large as a tablespoon) as well as in various materials (metal, plastic, and others). In the United States, measuring scoops come in a number of pieces (four or six) that have different capacities, which commonly includes one-fourth, one-half, one teaspoon, and one tablespoon.
