The Essential Beer Drip Pan

A good-quality and perfectly working drip pan or bar drip tray is important to any commercial or home draft-beer system. The beer drip tray is used to catch the drops or foam of beer that drip (hence the name) from the draft-beer tap, spout, spigot, or faucet when beer is poured out into the mug or glass. And because the drip tray is set under the beer dispenser, you essentially avoid big, inconvenient messes and unnecessary, time-consuming cleanup.

Most beer drip pans have a built-in grill so the bartender or barmaid can easily set the glasses or mugs down while avoiding the hassles of placing the glasses or mugs on top of spilled beer.

More on Drip Trays

As mentioned, the most common use of a beer drip pan (also sometimes called a splash guard) in a draft-beer dispensing system is to help catch the few drops or foam of beer that drip or fall from the faucet after draft beer is poured. But it's not as simple as that. There are actually several types of drip pans: counter top, drop in, and wall mounted. A wall-mounted drip pan is installed against the wall, a counter-top beer drip tray is easily placed on top of the counter (surface mounted), while a drop-in bar drip tray requires a counter cut-out. These beer drip trays are also made of various materials, which include stainless steel and brass.

Several drip pans hold the beer drops until they are emptied out, while others—usually those in commercial bars, pubs, restaurants, and taverns—divert the wasted beer down into a drain or large reservoir.
