Temperature-Holding Meal Transportation | School Service Solutions for Serving Meals in Classrooms

Schools are facing an unprecedented challenge as they prepare for students to return this fall - how to keep their students during a COVID-19 pandemic. A major obstacle for many schools concerns how to serve food to students while maintaining social distancing and other safety protocols. One possible solution? Serve breakfast and lunch in the classroom!

Essentials for Classroom Meal Delivery

Making the jump from a serving line or food station setup to meal delivery is a big undertaking. However, with the right tools, you can make the meal transportation process simple and easy-to-execute.

Cambro GoBoxes

An important component of effective food delivery is the holding unit. You want something that can maintain the temperature of your food while you transport and serve it.

Cambro GoBoxes are insulated food carriers made from lightweight EPP (expanded polypropylene foam) that can hold your food at safe temperatures (below 41 degrees or above 135 degrees Fahrenheit) for more than four hours.

These food pan carriers are designed to make transportation simple. In addition to the lightweight design (almost anyone can move them with ease), they also have ergonomic handles and are stackable.

We offer several different sizes of front-loading GoBoxes (63.4 quart and 90.4 quart), so depending on the size of your classrooms, you can mix and match to meet your needs. Each can hold multiple full-size food pans and is dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning!

Insulated Milk Box Carrier

Store and transport your milk cartons separately with a milk carrier GoBox. It can hold one 13" x 13" milk crate with 70 half pint milk cartons and will fit right on top of your food pan carrier GoBoxes.

GoBox Accessories

Since your foodservice staff are going to be moving multiple meals at once, we recommend stacking your GoBoxes on a Camdolly. It can hold up to 551 lbs. and has 4" swivel casters. Two of the casters have breaks so you can anchor the dolly while serving.

You can also use ID labels to designate which GoBoxes are for what foods - making it easier to separate hot and cold foods if needed.

If you want to store hot and cold meals in the same box, use the thermobarrier to prevent the conflicting temperatures from affecting the other meals.

Meal Loading Instructions

  1. Load the Cambro GoBox(es) on the dolly.
  2. Portion the food out onto your cafeteria trays then stack them side-by-side onto a full-size sheet pan. Depending on the size of your trays, you can fit 2 or 3 per sheet pan.
  3. Insert the sheet pans into the GoBox(es). If you are serving a mix of warm and cold food trays, we recommend storing the warm trays at the bottom, with the ambient/cold trays on top.
  4. Put the insulated milk box on top of the GoBox(es).
  5. Roll the food and millk to the appropriate classroom, then serve your hungry students!
